**The Opportunity**

This position works out of our Alajuela, Coyol location in the Vascular division that provides innovative, mínimally invasive, and cost-effective products for the treatment of vascular disease.

**What You'll Do**
- Consistently promote the Abbott Vascular Quality system by properly allocating resources and skill set, placing product quality and patient safety first, and by supporting internal or external audits related to catheter, guidewire, pressure sensing and stent delivery system technology.
- Set a compelling and inspirational vision and mission statement for the maintenance and calibrations department in line with the broader AVCR LATIR vision and values, and lead by example.
- Recruit, hire, onboard, develop, provide candid feedback, and manage performance up to and including dismissal of staff not performing to expectations. Reinforce 1:1 meetings to foster a culture of ongoing talent management and personal accountability.
- Manage the systems and organizational structure to enhance the maintenance and calibrations department performance against site metrics such as equipment availability and calibrations compliance, while enhancing personnel skills through the Abbott 70-20-10 development approach.
- Champion DMAIC and A3 thinking training and resulting project completion in line with engineering Cost Improvement Projects (CIPs), the management of spare parts and equipment, and reliability enhancements associated with Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) and Mean Time To Failure (MTTF).
- Instruct and educate maintenance and calibrations staff on the impact of equipment availability and excess downtime on capacity planning, product availability, Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE), process flow mapping (PFM), and the development of unit cost glides feeding financial forecasts - i.e. Latest Best Estimate (LBE) cycle and the upcoming year's plan.
- Lead, review and approve capital requests and financial analyses based on established tools and techniques (discounted cash flow, return on investment, payback period) to stay within the approved budget and achieve department objectives.
- Coordinate, monitor and control costs associated with overtime work and ancillary costs such as transportation and meals for staff.
- Communicate topics effectively through formal and informal presentations and reports, skillfully adapting style and content tailored to various audiences (not all technical), providing updates on department deliverables, risks and costs to senior management and other organizations outside AVCR.
- Collaborate with other functional managers and AVCR directors to achieve site milestones, and/or to establish learning gigs that provide development opportunities for others.
- Prepare and manage the operating budgets for both Maintenance and Calibration areas and ensure fiscal attainment of budgets
- Collaborate with other maintenance and calibration teams within the Vascular division and within Abbott to share and implement best practices that can help improve the overall maintenance and calibration department performance
- Build relationships, promoting open, honest communication with colleagues, internal customers, and vendors by establishing rapport, developing an understanding of others' needs, seeking common goals, and following through on commitments (accountability)

**Shift: Admin (Monday - Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm)**

**Required Qualifications**
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering field preferred or equivalent field (such as Business)
- 10+ years of demonstrated competence in engineering, maintenance, equipment, reliability, and or calibration. Proven track record in engineering, and maintenance department management supported by tangible results and consistent achievement of critical milestones.
- History of working independently, balancing strategic and tactical priorities for the business, while creating a vision of excellence for a technical department.
