Splunk is here to build a safer and more resilient digital world. The world's leading enterprises use our unified security and observability platform to keep their digital systems secure and reliable. While customers love our technology, it's our people that make Splunk stand out as an amazing career destination and why we've won so many awards as a best place to work. If you become a Splunker, we want your whole, authentic self, what we call your "million data points". So bring your work experience, problem-solving skills and talent, of course, but also bring your joy, your passion and all the things that make you, you.
**Role Summary**:
The Analytics & Data Platform team (ADP) is responsible for Splunk's internal data platform that empowers Splunkers across the enterprise to make the best data-driven decisions possible. We're looking for a DataOps Engineer to join the team and deliver meaningful contributions to the evolution of Splunk's data capabilities. This position is responsible for the development, maintenance, and support of the data platform (including on-call rotations), partnering with all levels of customers in the course of project development/support/migration activities, and actively participating in the growth and development of the team, its capabilities, and its processes.
**What you'll get to do**:
- Operate: Perform daily activities administering the platform and supporting our users with access, deployments, research, etc; all while being attentive to opportunities for automation and improvements.
- Support: Ensure SLAs are met by monitoring alerts and responding when issues arise. Partner with other engineers or dependent teams as needed to resolve issues. Participate in the weekly on-call rotation with your teammates to address problems that occur after hours.
- Develop: Terraform, GitLab, SQL, and Python will be your go to tools, but by no means is that all. You'll have a broad range of technologies that you'll need to wrestle into submission to be successful: Airflow, Kubernetes, Docker, DBT, and Linux, just to name a few.
- Collaborate: Team members are expected to work together to continuously improve the team's processes, infrastructure, codebase, etc. Asking questions, challenging ideas, and recommending alternatives are all vital for the team to continue to grow and improve. Passionate opinions are welcome.
- Innovate: Develop creative solutions with a focus on maintainability and scalability.
**Must-have Qualifications**:
- 5+ years of work experience in a relevant field (Data Engineering, DevOps, Backend Engineering, or similar)
- Solid understanding of modern OLAP data warehousing technologies such as Redshift, Snowflake, BigQuery, or similar
- 2+ years of hands on experience with DevOps and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as GitLab and Terraform
- Super comfortable and able to efficiently function in a Linux environment
- 2+ years experience with Agile processes such as Scrum and Kanban
- Deeply curious with a growth oriented mentality
**Nice-to-have Qualifications**:
We've taken special care to separate the must-have qualifications from the nice-to-haves. "Nice-to-have" means just that: Nice. To. Have. So, don't worry if you can't check off every box. We're not hiring a list of bullet points-we're interested in the whole you.
- Understanding of data privacy, security, and compliance concerns in an enterprise environment, and common mitigation strategies to these concerns.
- Past experience with containerization using Docker
- Familiarity with container orchestration using Kubernetes
- Experience with CI/CD automation and orchestration tools (we use GitLab and Airflow)
- Past contributions to open source projects
**Education**:
- B.S. degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics or a similar quantitative field; or sufficient relevant experience
**What we offer**:
- A constant stream of new things for you to learn. We're always expanding into new areas, bringing in open source projects and contributing back, and exploring new technologies.
- A set of extraordinarily hardworking, innovative, open, fun and dedicated peers, all the way from engineering and QA to product management and customer support.
- Growth and mentorship. We believe in growing engineers through ownership and leadership opportunities. We also believe mentors help both sides of the equation.
- A stable, collaborative and supportive work environment.
We don't expect people to work 12 hour days. We want you to have a successful time outside of work too. Want to work from home sometimes? No problem. We trust our colleagues to be responsible with their time and dedication and believe that balance helps cultivate an extraordinary environment
