The Unclaimed Property Accounting Analyst oversees the overall data collection, reporting, accounting, and tracking of the Unclaimed Property process, leading it in all aspects.
They ensure timely completion of reporting requirements, including due diligence reporting and state filings, and provide reconciliation support and resolution of variances related to the unclaimed property GL accounts.
Additionally, they manage risk based on exception reporting.
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive individual to join our team in this role, responsible for managing all aspects of unclaimed property compliance, ensuring adherence to state regulations and internal policies.

Requirements Lead the overall process for Unclaimed Property and comply with state reporting requirements.
Responsible for reviewing and approving monthly and quarterly account reconciliations as prepared by the Global Staff Accountant to lower risk and ensure accurate reporting and ledger maintenance.
Gather unclaimed property data for all Sysco entities and upload the details into the Unclaimed Property System.
Identify and research unclaimed property within the organization's financial records and monitor and manage the unclaimed property email box.
Monitor, manage and maintain the unclaimed property system.
Comply with due diligence reporting deadlines for all states.
Setup and track payments for due diligence responses and state reporting.
Timely report Unclaimed Property for all holders to the appropriate states Provide recon support to Global and all entities not supported by Global.
Review and provide feedback to the SBS Global team regarding reconciliations, journal entries and other assigned tasks.
Support internal and external audit requests.
Review and approve SOPs prepared by Global Staff Accountants; ensure the accuracy of current SOPs and assist Global Staff Accountants to revise if needed.
Develop and document the overall unclaimed property process and assist with the development of a policy for unclaimed property.
Suggest process improvements and work with upstream process owners to streamline the end-to-end processes.
Ensures adherence to department goals/metrics, Internal Audit reports, and SLAs.
Identify and research unclaimed property within the organization's financial records.
Conduct due diligence efforts to locate and contact potential owners of unclaimed property.
Prepare and submit accurate and timely unclaimed property reports to state agencies in compliance with statutory deadlines.
Reconcile unclaimed property accounts and investigate discrepancies.
Develop and implement internal controls and procedures to ensure compliance with unclaimed property laws and regulations.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to obtain necessary information and documentation for unclaimed property reporting.
Respond to inquiries and audits related to unclaimed property from regulatory agencies.
stay updated on changes to unclaimed property laws and regulations and communicate updates to relevant stakeholders.
Assist in the development and delivery of training programs on unclaimed property compliance for internal teams.
Qualifications : Bachelor's degree completed or in progress in: Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field.
Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in accounting or finance, ideally in a Shared Services environment.
Prior Unclaimed Property experience a plus but not required.
Strong understanding of accounting principles and regulations related to unclaimed property.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact effectively with colleagues and external parties.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Experience with unclaimed property software or databases is desirable but not required.
