Systems Software Development Engineer for HPE Storage
This role has been designated as 'Edge', which means you will primarily work outside of an HPE office.

Designs, develops, troubleshoots and debugs software programs for software enhancements and new products.
- Develops software including operating systems, compilers, routers, networks, utilities, databases and Internet-related tools.
- Determines hardware compatibility and/or influences hardware design.
- Software Development: Collaborate with a highly skilled team of engineers to design, develop, and implement software solutions for next generation storage devices. You will be responsible for writing efficient, reliable, and scalable code that enables seamless integration of hardware and software components.
- Performance Optimization: Work closely with hardware engineers to optimize software algorithms, drivers, and interfaces to achieve maximum performance and efficiency. Identify and resolve bottlenecks and optimize data transfer and storage operations.
- Testing and Validation: Develop and execute comprehensive test plans to ensure the reliability and functionality of the software. Conduct system-level testing, performance testing, and troubleshoot issues to ensure high-quality deliverables.
- Research and Innovation: Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in storage technologies, software methodologies, and industry trends. Explore new ideas, propose innovative solutions, and contribute to the development of patentable technologies.

- Works on problems of moderately complex scope. Acts as an informed team member providing analysis of information and limited project direction input.
- Exercises independent judgment within defined practices and procedures to determine appropriate action.
- Follows established guidelines and interprets policies. Evaluates unique circumstances and makes recommendations.
**_ How you´ll make your mark:_**
- Designs limited enhancements, updates, and programming changes for portions and subsystems of systems software, including operating systems, compliers, networking, utilities, databases, and Internet-related tools.
- Analyzes design and determines coding, programming, and integration activities required based on specific objectives and established project guidelines.
- Participates as a member of project team of other software systems engineers and internal and outsourced development partners to develop reliable, cost effective and high quality solutions for assigned systems portion or subsystem.
- Collaborates and communicates with internal and outsourced development partners regarding software systems design status, project progress, and issue resolution.
**_ About you:_**
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or equivalent.
- Typically 1-4 years experience.
- Competent programming skills in C are required, skills in Go, Python or Rust are desirable.
- Experience with low-level systems programming, embedded systems, or device drivers is highly desirable.
- Experience developing in Linux environments, including familiarity with Linux kernel and system-level programming is desirable.
- Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software design principles.
- Basic knowledge of networking protocols and concepts, such as tunnels and VLANs.
- Knowledge of storage technologies such as SSDs, HDDs, or flash memory is a plus.
- Familiarity with storage protocols and interfaces, including SATA, NVMe, SCSI, or PCIe.
