**Job Description**:
The person hired for the position of US Direct Tax Analyst will be responsible for assisting the US direct tax team with preparation of tax calculations as it relates to fixed assets, preparation of the FBAR reporting, preparation of the Form 1042 and 1042-S reporting, preparation of local city/county tax returns, and other projects as needed.
**Responsibilities**:
- Fixed Assets
- Gather and review fixed asset detail from appropriate sources
- Prepare tax depreciation reports for certain subsidiaries
- Review tax lives and depreciation methods for fixed assets
- Prepare fixed asset roll forwards for GAAP and Tax
- FBAR Reporting
- Gather, review, and consolidate foreign bank account detail from Treasury and Investment Operations into Excel format
- Prepare FBAR annual filing PDFs for 3M, Employment Trust, and Individuals with Signatory Authority
- Prepare FBAR filing instructions and send with FBAR PDF forms to individuals with filing obligations
- Forms 1042 and 1042-S
- Review W8 form information and confirm Tax Identification Numbers (TIN) for payment recipients
- Ensure correct SAP withholding tax coding in the system
- Review payments information in SAP and communicate with payments requester for any additional information to determine if withholding or reporting is required
- Gather and review outbound payment data and prepare files for submission to e-file
- Local Tax Returns
- Prepare income and apportionment workpapers for roughly 100 local city/county jurisdictions 3M Company and its subsidiaries file in.
- Prepare local jurisdiction tax forms in tax preparation software (Corptax) based on the income and apportionment workpapers.
- Other US direct tax projects as needed.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor level university/college degree or higher in Tax, business, economy, or Accounting is preferred.
- 1-3 years of relevant experience
- Fluent in English is a must (Written and Oral)
- Basic knowledge of US income tax concepts
- Basic knowledge of US tax law related to fixed assets
- General understanding of U.S. withholding taxes on outbound payments
- Ability to research and understand income tax treaties
Preferred Qualifications:
- Solid verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft tools
- Basic knowledge of SAP or equivalent ERP system
- Experience with BNA Tax Software
- Experience with Checkpoint E-file forms
- Alteryx software experience
