Amazon's Tax Engine is looking for a Tax Analyst with a background in big data to help support and even revolutionize the team's self-audit and risk detection efforts. We run processes to identify and block bad actors, eliminate invalid tax details, and we also support metrics to measure the impact of these actions. Amazon's Tax Engine is a fast-paced, dynamic environment with people based all over the world. We are adding to a small team in San José, Costa Rica that primarily supports ATEP, a tool supporting US sales tax exemptions. However, the Costa Rica team's scope is growing and is increasingly supporting the larger tax settings space, which includes global tax information, registrations, and validations.
As a Tax Analyst, you will support ATEP core processes and contribute to global tax settings projects. Areas of responsibility include monitoring exemption creation activity, carrying out remediation actions where appropriate, and making regular updates to the ATEP user interface. You will also review tax exemption audit results, offer exemption-specific customer service support, and perform other functions in the tax engine space. We are looking for someone with a strong background in SQL queries for data retrieval and data analytics. Once you are fully trained, we will ask you to challenge our team to think about our data and processes in more efficient and sophisticated ways. You will receive instructions, guidelines, and review when performing job duties, but you must be able to work independently and seek guidance proactively—this is what our team refers to as "Ownership." You will be asked to propose improvements to processes, metrics, or documentation based on a thorough knowledge of our data and processes.
Key job responsibilities
- Carry out reoccurring and ad-hoc workflows to validate exemption data
- Keep regularly-scheduled workflows on time
- Offer exemption-specific customer service support
- Prepare, test, and implement user interface changes on the customer-facing website
- Pull reports/data from a variety of internal systems
- Analyze complex data and present findings to peers and supervisors
- Document all actions and processes to a high standard
- Offer support for audit reviews
