**The Opportunity**
This position works out of our Costa Rica - Alajuela location in the Electrophysiology Division. In Abbott's Electrophysiology (EP) business, we're advancing the treatment of heart disease through breakthrough medical technologies in atrial fibrillation, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives.
As the Sr Safety Specialist, you'll be responsible for managing the implementation and sustaining of all Safety programs according to local (government) and external (corporate) regulations and standards. Ensure that Safety Management System is established and deployed within Abbott in accordance with recognized international standards. Proposing, developing, monitoring, and improving policies, procedures, and work instructions to ensure that the company meets and complies with all applicable corporate and local Safety Standards and regulations. Assures appropriate corrective action is taken where health and safety hazards exist. Manage training of employees and contractors. Ensure Management and full compliance of Abbott Safety technical and managerial standards.
**What You'll Do**
- Assure compliance of Abbott EP/SH Costa Rica with Safety local government authorities, certification entities and/or corporate officers.
- Manage the Inspection and Compliance verification program of the facility (Check List), in order to identify potential hazards or legal findings, analyzing operating records and reports, documenting all inquiries regarding safety, or industrial hygiene issues, implementing corrective action where necessary.
- Ensure that established procedures are followed by ALL contractors. Lead the contractor's management - Safety performance continuous improvement process. Lead the Site shutdown's EHS support and ALL expansion projects assuring safety first.
- Coordinate with the business leading partner for operations in the implementation and sustaining of ALL Safety programs in order to reduce workplace injuries/illnesses and potential impacts, ensuring that established procedures are followed by all contractors.
- Supervise the Safety Staff in order establish, support, and maintain the Health and Safety programs for Abbott.
- Reports to Senior EHS management on the performance and outcomes of the Safety programs for review.
**Shift Admin**
**Required Qualifications**
Bachelor's degree in Environmental, Health & Safety Engineering.
+8 years in Environmental, Health and Safety field
- +5 years Safety Management Systems
- +5 years Safety Regulatory Compliance, developing Safety policies and procedures in Safety, assuring their alignment with Safety governmental regulations.
- Critical hazards control, sound technical knowledge; Must have knowledge in OSHA Industry Standards.
- Experience with emergency response, life safety and LOTO/Machine guarding.
- Computer skills. Use PowerPoint, Excel spreadsheets, and/or Microsoft Project.
- Advance command of English Language

- ISO 45001 Auditor Certificate
- Incorporated in The Colegio de Ingenieros y Arquitectos.
- Demonstrate leadership, teamwork, customer service and decision-making skills.
