The Network Engineer will demonstrate in-depth knowledge of technical management and operational practices to develop the technical strategy used to improve the network globally.
The candidate will collaborate with technical SMEs, architecture, and vendors to maintain and grow the company network.
The role will support in developing diagnostic and scripts, and validate new solutions required to support our ecosystems of manufacturing and research locations worldwide.This role will be a key part of a multifunctional team that designs, supports, secures, and maintains the underlying network infrastructure.A day in the life of:Maintain and improve a global network environment that includes routers, switches, firewalls, SD-WAN devices, wireless controllers and load balancers.Find opportunities to improve the corporate network by looking at the root cause of the problems and put together a plan to systemically address themCollaborate with fellow network SMES on optimization initiativesDocument the current state of the network with granular detail and present to the larger network teamDeliver mentorship and direction to lower level engineers and peer support groupsEnd to end coordination with our vendors and providers for issue resolutionsDrive quality into the metrics we report, including measurement of issues, network capacity, vendor equipment/failures analysis and network performance, as well as continual assessment of the quality and effectiveness of network monitoring and alerting.Responsible for documenting system maintenance, enhancements and performance for effective network operations and managementFind opportunities for automation and own these initiatives till completion in collaboration with respective SMEs and programmersGuide our customers and colleagues on Global Network engagement and ITIL processesLead technology trainings based on area of expertise for more junior engineersHow will you get there?BA/BS education and/or 7+ years of work experience in network engineering and operations is required with very deep expertise in one or more technical areasExperience with Cisco and Arista or Fortinet or F5 products and servicesAutomation related programming skills (Python or similar) is a nice to haveGood understanding of Networking and Security standards, practices and methods.Experiencing leading technologoy initiatives from planning through execuSolid grasp of SD-WAN management is a plusUnderstanding and experience of cloud computing specifically relating to networks, including AWS and/or Azure is an advantageTool & Technology SkillsTelco: WAN, LAN, WirelessOSS/BSS: Service Now, JiraNetwork Switching, Routing, Security, CloudProduct: Cisco, Fortinet, F5, Silver Peak SDWAN, Arista, Clearpass, OperGear, Meraki, AWS, AzureAutomation: Python, API, Service OrchestrationKnowledge, Skills, AbilitiesExcellent verbal and written communication skills, good customer service skills, and a demonstrable ability to work with various teams.Perform duties with little to no supervisionBe a self-motivated, highly ethical individual with a demonstrated ability to work as independently as well as with a team.Be eager to learn new technologies and develop your skillsDevelop relationships with our clients, engineering, and peer management teams, and effectively navigate across the organizationThermo Fisher Scientific is an EEO/Affirmative Action Employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, protected veteran status, disability or any other legally protected status.
