**POSITION PURPOSE**:
A versatile position at a nonprofit that wants to make it simple for anyone to help the environment by planting trees.
Together we can restore forests, create habitat for biodiversity, and make a positive social impact around the world.
**Primary Responsibilities and Role in the Organization Summary**:
One Tree Planted is looking for a dynamic individual to add to our fast growing team.
The Carbon Specialist's primary responsibility will be to lead the organization's development of a carbon program to better position One Tree Planted to help our corporate clients meet their carbon goals and objectives.
We are looking to fill roles in the following regions: North America, Latin America, Africa, Southeast Asia.

**ESSENTIAL FUNCTION**:
Primary Responsibilities and Role in the Organization Summary:

- Support further development of One Tree Planted's carbon program and policies.
- Provide support and leadership to our Projects Team to assist in the selection and assessment of appropriate projects to address global best practice standards, including Verra, Gold Standard, American Carbon Registry, Climate Action Reserve, Plan Vivo, SD Vista, ICROA and others.
- Support the development, management, and MRV of the regional carbon portfolio.
- Conduct and build the capacity of implementing partners on the carbon project development process and data needs, including: PIN completion, feasibility assessment, certification standards and methodology selection, and PDD development.
- Conduct QC and QA on all project data.
- Develop key regional partnerships with technical service providers, academia, NGOs and others to address project needs.
- Support the organization's response to verifier, registry, and government regulator findings/questions.
- Support the creation of project marketing and communications materials to ensure accuracy and consistency of our carbon offerings to our donors, supporters and corporate clients.
- Maintain project timelines and meet strict deadlines.
- Other duties as required.
**POSITION REQUIREMENTS**:
**EDUCATION**:Master of Science in Forestry, Forest Science, Forest Carbon or related field with training in relevant skills such as conducting forest biometrics, forest modeling, participatory rural appraisals, forestry best practices, and have a working knowledge of tree species commonly used in agroforestry as well as for native plantings worldwide and their ecosystem characteristics and impacts.
**RELATED EXPERIENCE**:

- A minimum of three (3) years relevant work experience with sound knowledge on different international carbon standards and emission reduction calculation methodologies and tools including: Verra, Gold Standard, American Carbon Registry, Climate Action Reserve, Plan Vivo, SD Vista, ICROA and others.
- Advanced knowledge of carbon policy, carbon protocols, and carbon accounting standards.
- Possess on-the-ground carbon, afforestation/reforestation, landscape restoration, and related capacity building.
- Experience in working in forestry/carbon related partnerships, collaborations and initiatives.
- Experience marketing carbon and forestry services to forest owners, investors, and advisors in diverse contexts.
- Experience with carbon and financial modeling in a variety of global forest and land tenure/resource rights types.
- Familiarity with corporate sustainability goals and outcomes such as Net Zero, Carbon Neutrality and Insetting to help them meet global climate change objectives and targets.
- Willing to travel internationally for site visits.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, ArcGIS and other software relevant to carbon modeling, monitoring forest metrics would be advantageous.
- Self-motivated individual with a strong work ethic, proven technical abilities, clear communication skills, and a high level of technical writing proficiency.
- Proficiency in Spanish, Portuguese and/or French would be advantageous.
- Good time-management and self-management skills, is able to take direction, and work independently and collaboratively.

IDEAL LOCATION: Ability to work remotely.
The location for this position is a central location with proximity to a major international airport.
**COMPENSATION**: Typical starting range is will be based on skills and experience.
Annual performance increase may be available but not guaranteed.
