ROLE SUMMARY
The Manager of NAS Storage Engineering is responsible for the design, engineering, operationalization, and continuous improvement of Pfizer's global NAS service, both Internal and cloud hosted capabilities.
This role will support Pfizer's internal enterprise NAS storage as well as externally hosted cloud storage services. The role will be responsible for establishing service designs that meet specific business requirements that are in alignment with defined security & compliance controls.
The role will then coordinate with various platform owners and domain experts (e.g. Operating System, Middle-Tier, Database, Network) to fully integrate those solutions into a cohesive storage-based service offering. This role will be required to interface regularly with Security, Identity & Compliance teams to define and then implement the controls necessary to enable specific business use cases. The role will act as a lead for the operationalization of NAS storage services, enabling the transition of newly engineered services to steady-state operations.
The role will interface with key strategic operational support providers to ensure efficient and appropriate use of storage resources, and continuously pursue improvements to increase value. This role reports directly to the Global NAS Service Lead, which is part of the Business Application Platforms (BAP) organization within Enterprise Platforms and Security (EP&S).
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for the mid-term strategy, design & engineering, implementation, operationalization, improvement and ongoing lifecycle management of Pfizer's global portfolio of internally and externally-hosted storage services.
- Provide oversight and guidance to our technology partners related to the adoption of new solutions.
- Work jointly with Pfizer Security, Identity and Compliance to define the controls required to enable various different business use cases for storage services.
- Lead project teams for the design and implementation of new storage service providers, working closely with various Pfizer delivery teams and key business stakeholders to ensure the viability and effectiveness of existing solutions.
- Work closely with storage service providers to identify opportunities to increase overall efficiency either through transition to different service types/models, and/or through the "right sizing" of workloads as required.
- Provide guidance on new requests for additional capabilities, and communicate broader and strategic service improvements.
- Work with client teams to jointly evaluate new technologies and advise on operational viability.
- Lead the technical engineering and implementation of any new storage technologies that will be formally supported by Pfizer Digital.
- Maintain contemporary storage services intelligence through an active network of key strategic partnerships and advisors, ensuring that Pfizer stays abreast of the latest trends in storage technologies and market shifts.
- Continuously evaluate new capabilities and provide guidance on where investments should be made.
- Continually evaluate activities within the NAS environment and automate tasks where possible.
- Ability to perform complex data analysis
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a similar technical/engineering discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in an enterprise IT setting, preferably one in a highly regulated industry such as banking/financial or healthcare/pharmaceutical.
- Deep knowledge of and expertise with enterprise Network Attached Storage (NAS) technology, primarily EMC and NetApp. Additional knowledge and expertise with cloud storage providers such as AWS, Google and Azure is also highly desired.
- Deep knowledge of ITIL ITSM concepts is required.
- Deep understanding of UNIX/Linux and Windows security and complex NAS permissions structures to ensure the highest level of security is required.
- Deep understanding of multiprotocol access to shares
- Solid understanding of Windows DFS for CIFS share mapping
- An understanding of NFSv4 kerberos
- Solid understanding and practical experience in data management & transfer tools as well as scripting with common languages such as perl, python, ksh, and windows vb & batch.
- Understanding of networking technologies as they relate to hosting, including DNS, IPAM, load balancing, Virtual Private Networking (VPN), and Direct Connect or Point-to-Point services.
- Strong communicative skills and the ability to simplify complex planning details into business operational terms in an international environment.
- Demonstrated experience in an agile work environment possessing qualities such as a collaborative mindset, adaptability to change, and a proactive problem-solving approach.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a similar technical/engineering discipline.
- 5-7 years experience providing technical support with NetApp and/or DELL NAS
