**The Opportunity**
This position works out of our Alajuela location in the Electrophysiology (EP) business. In Abbott's Electrophysiology (EP) business, we're advancing the treatment of heart disease through breakthrough medical technologies in atrial fibrillation, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives.
As **the Enviromental Health and Safety Specialist I**, you'll be responsible for the implementation and sustaining of all EHS programs according to local and external regulations. The resource must also be aligned with all regulations established by Abbott on the previously mentioned scopes.
**What You'll Do**
- Support the processes in order to formulate, implement, manage and improve ALL programs related with the Environmental, Health and Safety Scopes reporting to Environmental Health & Safety Specialist Ill & Senior EHS Engineer on the performance of ALL EHS programs and routines.
- Communicates with internal EHS Supporting groups and EHS Departmental team to establish and achieve the targets and objectives for ALL relevant EHS programs.
- Directly responsible of performing regular EHS inspections, supervision and audits.
- Provide support in the completion of documentation and reports (reporting, documentation, metrics on both verbal and written forms) required by the local and Federal regulatory agencies on the Safety and Health Scopes.
- Establish and maintain the ergonomic program.
- Investigate EHS incidents and their prevention.
- Responsible for and has the authority to ensure that the Environmental Management System (EMS) is established, implemented and maintained in accordance with the requirements of ISO 14001:2015 & ISO 50001.
- Interface with the corporation to achieve necessary environmental goals and ensure site complies with local legislation.
- Effectively communicates EHS strategies, targets and objectives within Abbott.
- Ensures that required EHS training is provided for Abbott employees in a timely fashion.
- Responsible to ensure compliance with all EHS permits and licenses required for Abbott site operations.

**Required Qualifications**
- B.S. in EHS Engineering, Safety and Occupational Health, Safety Engineering, Environmenal Management.
- 1-3+ years' experience developing EHS policies and procedures in Occupational Health, Safety and ergonomics areas and assuring their alignment with governmental regulations.
- Experience with emergency response, life safety and the proper handling
- of biological and industrial waste materials.
- Use PowerPoint, Excel spreadsheets, and/or Microsoft Project.
- Must have knowledge in OSHA, NFPA, ANSI, INTECO and ISO 14001, ISO 50001 standards.
- Intermediate Commands of English / Required
**Preferred Qualifications**
- Incorporated in The Colegio de Ingenieros y Arquitectos
- Knowledge in storage and handling of industrial gases is preferred.
- Must be able to work with all levels of management and staff.
- Desired previous experience in medical industry.
