**Role Summary**:
The Competitive Intelligence team at Splunk is looking for a new team member to support the organization at large with a primary focus on GTM activities across the Sales and Marketing organizations. We are looking for individuals with deep technical skills, extensive business knowledge, or a combination of both and may adjust the primary role responsibilities or title accordingly. Generally, CI Managers more closely align with Sales Reps and Product Marketers, while CI Engineers typically align with Sales Engineers and Product Managers, however the two roles overlap and are not mutually exclusive.
This individual will be expected to demonstrate a passion for and deep understanding of the competitive landscape within the Data Platforms industry and associated spaces. This includes knowledge of users who are driving insights from high volumes of data in the cloud or on-prem, and how and why their program approach, architecture, etc., works and will evolve. Your ability to be an impartial analyst of these spaces will be critical in our efforts to improve sales and messaging effectiveness, deal win rates, product roadmap, and more.
**What you'll get to do**:
- Take pride and have a genuine curiosity about researching the comprehensive data platform landscape including customers who may use Splunk for custom data analytics, or who are crossing the boundaries between security, observability, and other use cases.
- This will include researching current and emerging tactical and strategic competitive threats and trends in the logging, data lake, data warehouse, data routing, data tiering, and similar domains.
- Become well-versed in the Splunk portfolio of products and how we help customers solve their most critical use cases across their Security, Observability, and platform needs, with the primary focus on competitive differentiation from a Platform perspective
- Following standard methodologies, develop and maintain a clear understanding of competitor product strengths, weaknesses and changes at a technical and business level.
- Take direction from and work closely with other CI team members to validate research and contribute to communicating Splunk's combined competitive assessment in oral and written formats.
- Work with portfolio, technical marketing, and win-loss teams to formulate competitive sales strategies, content, and collateral, keeping this continuously up to date for a selection of competitors.
- Directly and frequently support sales teams (including technical sales) typically through an internal briefing/support process
- Support Product Management with product feature gap analysis as a secondary area of focus.
- Conduct all competitive intelligence activities with the highest ethical standards and methods exemplified by organizations such as SCIP.
- ~10% or less travel expected
**Must-have Qualifications**:
- 2+ years of experience as a Competitive Intelligence practitioner, or, a field facing technical role, such as a Technical Marketing Manager, Product Manager, or Sales Engineer, with domain specific experience.
- Familiarity with one or more competitive intelligence methodologies and/or CI knowledge management platforms (i.e., Klue, Crayon, etc.).
- Outstanding English communication skills are required to support colleagues which consume information in a variety of methods, such as written, recorded, live, etc.
- Proven understanding of the sales process and buyer journey
- Win-Loss Program experience is considered a plus
- Ability to collect, analyze, categorize, and make recommendations based on exceptional volumes of data or very little data at all, and to openly incorporate feedback received from field teams.
- Association with or training from SCIP, ACI, or similar is not required but is considered a plus. All team members will be offered SCIP membership, as well as CI specific training opportunities
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practicel experience in Computer Science, Engineering, IT practices, etc., and, the desire to learn continuously
