Oversight of daily legal matters of Moody's Local (corporate, contractual, commercial in general, regulatory, litigation, etc.) in several Central America jurisdictions, working closely with Moody's Local General Counsel, other members of the Moody's Legal team and the Moody's Local management team.
- Negotiate and draft amendments to customer contracts and assist with governmental tenders with customers (where relevant in conjunction with other members of the Moody's Legal team).
- Involved in strategic Central America focused projects, including growth of the business by acquisition or greenfield development, and advise on key issues as needed.
- Assist with regulatory issues across Central America jurisdictions.
- Assist Moody's Local General Counsel in Legal Operations and Tech processes and initiatives, working with other teams across the organization including the operational team.
- Advise on Moody's Local new product initiatives, including credit rating and environmental, social & governance (ESG) products.
- Development of standard forms, precedents, guidance notes, best practices and training materials.
- Preparing and delivering presentations to Moody's Local staff on legal developments relevant to Moody's Local.
- Assist with any legal matter on an as-needed basis.
- Collaborate closely with external counsel.
Strong academic record.
- Qualified to practice as a lawyer in Costa Rica or another relevant Central America jurisdiction.
- A minimum of 4 years of proven experience in a Central America private practice law firm or in the Legal Department of a multi-national financial services company, with knowledge in Costa Rica or other suitable Central American jurisdiction(s).
- Experience working in an international environment with senior individuals.
- Knowledge of financial services products/markets highly preferred.
- Fluent in Spanish and English.
- Curiosity about Legal Operation and Legal Tech initiatives & innovations and the ability to implement them.
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Experience working with a diverse range of individuals of varying seniorities.
- Experience in drafting and negotiation.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Flexible approach: business-minded but understands fully Moody's Local legal and regulatory risks.
- Ability to approach legal issues in an innovative way to achieve corporate strategic objectives.
- Excellent administration, project management, and document-management skills.
- Ability to provide results within established timeframes.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
- Limited travel within Latin America as the need arises.
- Ability to quickly grasp diverse and sophisticated issues.
- Self-starter willing to take responsibilities in the region with appropriate supervision.
