Job Summary
Reporting to the Vice Provost for Faculty Success, the Assistant Vice Provost for Faculty Excellence and Teaching Innovation leads the operations, programming, and future directions of the Center for Faculty Excellence and Teaching Innovation (CFETI). The AVP develops, facilitates, and assesses CFETI programs through an equity lens to provide holistic support for different stages of the faculty lifecycle—from new faculty orientation through the career milestones of tenure-track and lecturer faculty, all the way through to retirement. The incumbent consults with college leadership, department chairs, University Personnel, Research and Innovation, and the Office of Diversity Equity and Inclusion to cultivate comprehensive support for faculty within a Minority Serving Institution context. In overseeing CFETI, the AVP establishes the support offered to faculty across teaching modalities (in person, online, and hybrid) as they incorporate digital and creative literacies and implement active learning techniques in synchronous and asynchronous courses. The incumbent oversees a team of instructional designers and media production specialists and develops programs and faculty learning communities that address equity gaps, course redesign, universal design for learning, and the needs of adult learners.
Key Responsibilities
Design, implement, and assess a broad range of faculty professional development programs designed to support faculty excellence over the entire career life cycle, including new faculty orientation; support through tenure and promotion and range elevation; mid-career professional advancement and leadership; and transitioning to retirement
Provide programs in a range of formats, from independent workshops to ongoing series and Canvas training modules to sustained faculty learning communities
Partner with campus entities, including the Division of Research and Innovation and the University library, to facilitate programs on scholarly writing, proposal creation, and managing a RSCA program
Collaborate with Faculty Success and University Personnel to provide support related to retention, tenure, and promotion, sabbatical applications, and range elevation applications
Offer confidential one-on-one consultations to address faculty concerns with teaching, research, service, and/or the navigating career advancement processes
Recruit and evaluate faculty to serve as Faculty-in-Residence to expand the range of CFETI programs that can be offered, for example to create belongingness and community for faculty from marginalized groups
Under the guidance of Faculty Success, work with University Personnel and the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to facilitate programs that support the retention of a diverse faculty prepared for the breadth of students at SJSU
Work collaboratively with other units and broadly consult across the university to ensure programming is meeting the university's needs for faculty development
Collect, assess, and annually report the impact and reach of CFETI programming on faculty development
Engage in the CSU faculty development community
Integrate technology-mediated instruction and various learning modalities (online, hybrid, and face-to-face) into the broader repertoire for faculty excellence
Ensure training and resources for faculty to enhance their pedagogical effectiveness across course modalities (in person, online, and hybrid) and formats (synchronous and asynchronous)
Develop and implement programs that encourage faculty to incorporate digital and creative literacies into their courses, as well as active learning strategies across the disciplines
Ensure that programs address best practices for equity, belongingness, and asset-based teaching innovations to support the academic success of a wide range of learners, including first-generation students, historically underserved students, and adult learners
Lead the development and implementation of summer and winter certificate programs that aid faculty in adopting new technologies into their courses
Work with the Senior Director of Teaching Innovation to collect, assess, and annually report the impact and reach of CFETI programming on teaching innovations and student success outcomes
Serve as liaison for instructional designers and media production specialists working with faculty teaching in SJSU Online
Manage CFETI—instructional designers and media production specialists, as well as administrative staff—and operate the unit as a team, fostering professional growth and an atmosphere of collaboration and equity
Work with the Administrative Analyst/Specialist to maintain fiscal oversight of the unit, ensuring that unit transaction logs are up-to-date; creating realistic budget projections for the unit; and create clear budgets for CFETI - related programs that are funded through special initiatives
Oversee facilities in the CFETI to ensure appropriate technological resources are in place for staff to accomplish their duties and goals and to best support the overall goals and mission of Academic Affairs and the University
Promote CFETI to ensure high visibility to faculty and the university community
Create an effective communication and marketing plan so faculty and divisional leadership are aware of CFETI programs and services
Collaborate with appropriate units on external funding to support faculty development
Support the Provost's office by taking the lead on special assignments, as needed

Required Qualifications
Terminal degree in the field
7 years of successful university teaching experience, service, and a record of scholarly/creative activity that would warrant a tenured position in one of the disciplines of the university
Experience offering faculty professional development
Preferred Qualifications
Tenured with 10 years of university teaching, scholarship, and service experience
Teaching and/or research experience in digital and creative literacies or instructional design

Classification: Administrator III
Anticipated Hiring Range: $14,000/month - $14,500/month
CSU Salary Range: $6,563/month - $21,066/month
The final hiring salary will be commensurate with experience.
