Introduction
As a SRE Engineer, you will work in an agile, collaborative environment to build, deploy, configure and maintain systems for the IBM client business. In this role, you will lead the problem resolution process for our clients, from analysis and troubleshooting, to deploying workarounds or fixes. Working closely with our worldwide teams, you will have a unique opportunity to gain first-hand experience with the latest technologies and be supported by a global team of IBMers to grow your own technical skills and develop your career. This role may require some attention after normal working hours in order to troubleshoot and resolve production issues experienced by clients. This role may also require shifting working hours as needed basis for follow-the-sun coverage.
Your Role and Responsibilities
You will be a member of the SRE network/security team supporting all IBM Software offerings delivered
as a SaaS solution by consistently delivering connected digital services reliably and securely to workers,
partners, customers, and things.
You will drive a stable optimized network environment supporting an internal and external reduction in
measuring/monitoring, to network and security processes.
It is expected that you will:
- Use software and development tools to make changes to network devices instead of
connecting via the CLI to each device separately
- Architect, design, implement, support, and evaluate tools and services with a security,
scalability, and performance mindset
- Maintain and extend the capabilities of our primary teams: network and security
operations/engineering
- Provide points of technical escalation for tools and technologies used for delivering the
capabilities of products owned and supported by the team
- Lead and contribute to the development of custom code to integrate platform components,
fill tooling gaps, and solve potentially unique situations
- Collaborate with key technical and business leaders to gather and develop actionable
requirements

Required Technical and Professional Expertise
Knowledge of one or more programming/automation languages
- Ansible, Terraform, Python, Java, C#, Python, PHP, GO, etc.
- Experience building services using IaaS products and services.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines build processes
- Experience with software engineering best practices (code reviews, source control
management, build processes, testing, release and change management)
- Have a comfortable understanding of operating systems administration (Linux and
Windows)
- Have a comfortable understanding of networking protocols such as DNS, BGP, OSPF, DHCP,
and ZTP
- SVC systems like git and CI/CD systems like Jenkins, bamboo, gitlab
- Excellent working knowledge of network technologies like firewalls, routers, switches as well
as Software Defined Network concepts and technologies
- Experience with IaaS cloud provided services (firewall, load balancing, etc.)
- Fluent English
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
- Vyatta administration as evidenced by a VyOS certification
- Fortinet administration as evidenced by a NSE certification
- Juniper administration as evidenced by a JNCP certification
- Automation expertise as evidenced by a HashiCorp Infrastructure Automation certification
or Red Hat Certified Specialist in Ansible Network Automation
- IaaS knowledge as evidenced by AWS Cloud Practitioner, Microsoft Certified Azure
Fundamentals, or GCP Foundational certification
